SRWare Iron Portable is a browser that's based on the Chromium source code and is nearly identical to Chrome, but it addresses several of these privacy concerns. Visually, SRWare Iron Portable is virtually indistinguishable from Chrome, and it functions just as Chrome does; it's sleek and speedy. Adblock Plus for Chrome

Online ads slow down Web browsing and are quite annoying in general. As an extension for Google Chrome, AdBlock Plus will eliminate all of the ads from your browsing experience, even ones attached to videos on YouTube. It installs in seconds and has absolutely no hiccups or surprises. This software offers one the best features related to ad blocking -- it strips Web videos of ads. This is a fantastic feature if you frequently watch TV shows or other videos online. Other than that, this program isn't about what you see, but what you don't. While there's no layout of the actual program to speak of, it doesn't leave a bunch of obnoxious blank spaces where ads once were. It modifies Chrome's layout to make it look like the ads were never there in the first place. There are sometimes little jumps where ads would be in Web video, but it's hardly noticeable. There are two things to look for when you're looking for ad-blocking software: Does it work and is it easy to install? AdBlock Plus fits both of those criteria perfectly. It installs and is ready to go in seconds and snuffs out ads all over the Web. If you use Google Chrome, there's no reason to surf without it.
Incognito This!

Incognito This from Jerry and Ben is an application designed for what is termed "private browsing." This is an Internet navigation mode preferred by individuals who, for whatever reasons, do not wish others to know what sites they visit. If you want to have this functionality literally at your fingertips, then you will probably like this free Google Chrome extension. Once downloaded and installed, the extension is immediately accessible via an icon in the Chrome toolbar. Clicking the Incognito This icon will open an Incognito window with the same Web site that you were on when you clicked the icon. While navigating in this window, no record of your browsing history will be reflected. Incognito This is easy to understand and use since the transition is simply like opening a new browser. There are no Help files or tooltips to aid the newbie, but opening a new tab in the Incognito window will offer a link to Google Support where additional information can be found. We found no issues with the installation and uninstallation of the add-on.
Checker Plus for Google Calendar

If you use Google Calendar to keep your existence humming along smoothly, you'll like Checker Plus, an add-on for Google Calendar. Checker Plus brings a lot of useful features, such as Quick Add desktop notifications with Snooze and Dismiss options, audible reminders, and even a cooking timer that will tell you when it's time to take the pizza out of the oven. Checker Plus is free, but it could conceivably pay for itself in no time simply by preventing API (accidental pizza incineration) due to cyberdistraction, a leading cause of domestic discord. Checker Plus downloads and installs like other Chrome add-ons, which is to say quickly and painlessly. The add-on's extensive options include desktop notification settings, background mode, tooltips, time format, highlighting, and a check box to always use SSL; and that's just for starters. In fact, we can't recall seeing many Chrome extensions with as many options as Checker Plus, let alone options that are actually useful, but you can easily contact developer Jason Savard and request any you can think of. Savard also maintains an extensive wiki-based Help file, including videos and logs. We tested the desktop notification, which includes both sound alerts and a voice notification that reads the title of your event out loud. Clicking Snooze recycles pop-up messages at intervals ranging from 5 minutes to 4 hours or up to a week. Checker Plus really comes into its own in Google Calendar, though one of its chief advantages is that you don't have to open Calendar's Web page to use it: Checker Plus can display information like the time until your next meeting right on its icon on the Chrome toolbar. You can also view and make changes to your Calendar entries in a pop-up that has a Quick Add feature for setting reminders for events that are just about to happen or those that are days away. Checker Plus also supports multiple instances of Google Calendar and Google Apps Calendar. Checker Plus brings advanced capabilities to a feature that was already useful in many ways.
MiniLock

If you have ever wanted a quick and easy way to send encrypted files, then MiniLock is a solution worth exploring. This is a Chrome app, so you must run the Google Chrome browser in order to use it. It is a quick, effective method for encrypting files that can only be opened by people with your designated passphrase. ProsFile selection interface: To encrypt a file using MiniLock, all you have to do is drag it into the large surface in the middle of the app, and it is automatically encrypted. You can also select the file by browsing manually, if you prefer. The interface is easy to understand and well designed. Perfect function: None of the files we encrypted could be opened from non-designated accounts without the passphrase. The passphrase also worked perfectly in all tests to open the encrypted files. File name encryption: The program also automatically encrypts the file name of the file you're sending. This is very helpful and a welcome added security feature in case someone somehow intercepts the message. Any unauthorized viewers of an email containing a file encrypted by MiniLock will have no idea what they are looking at. ConsConfusing passphrase setup: Upon initializing the app, it asks you to set up a passphrase. When you try to put your own in, it refuses it most of the time without explanation. Bottom LineMiniLock is an effective, easy-to-use file encryption app. If you're a Google Chrome user, this program makes a great addition to your app toolbox.
Google Pack beta

Google Pack is another useful idea from those nearly ubiquitous, ever-industrious Google folks. The Pack takes a bunch of disparate but essential programs, tosses in the entirety of the Google desktop suite, then loads and automatically updates all of them as future changes are made. A pre-installation checklist lets users opt in or out, and the program is flexible enough to allow users to change their choices easily after installation. The latest version adds options to download Google's browser, Chrome, in addition to or instead of Mozilla's Firefox with Google Toolbar. From Google's repertoire come Earth, Desktop, Talk, Picasa, Photo Screensavers, and the Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. There's also Skype, RealPlayer, Adobe Reader, Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, and a six-month subscription to Norton's Security Scan. StarOffice, a suite of word processing and spreadsheet tools, and Ad-Aware have been nixed from previous versions. It's encouraging to see a range of programs being offered, though it would be nice to see Google Pack, which is a not-so-subtle Googlification of the Microsoft Windows Updater, cover a wider range of applications. Shockwave and Flash would be good places to start, as would QuickTime or a good, freeware FTP program.
